rescued by cops
ZAMBOANGA City — Police authorities here rescued a 65-year-old Chinese-Filipino trader but had failed to apprehend any of the kidnappers.
Senior Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, city police director, said Thomas To was snatched in Barangay Tetuan around 9 p.m. Monday.
SPO1 Efren Gregorio, investigator of the Tetuan police, said To was forced into a white Besta van with plate number JVG 596 by at least three men.
De Ocampo said that as soon as the police received the report about the abduction, operatives immediately responded and pursued suspects.
Gregorio said To, owner of the Totekso Furniture, was rescued during a chase that ended in Barangay Talon-talon around 10 p.m.
The vehicle that the kidnappers used was also recovered but the suspects had escaped, he said. —Inquirer
