Retirement pension query

HELLO to the staff of Action Line and Bandera. I'm an avid reader of your newspaper because you help people in need through your columns Action Line and Wish Ko, Give Mo. I am writing to you now because I want to know if my husband’s retirement pension from the Social Security System could be transfered to me.

My husband died last year and I haven’t received received a single centavo from the SSS.

I am already 63 years old and I often get sick. Please help me regarding this. I need the money to support my everyday expenses.

Any help would be appreciated very much.

REPLY: Retirement pension of member is transferable to his primary beneficiaries or legal spouse and minor children. Under the SSS Law (Sec. 12-B [d]), the legal spouse should be married to the member prior to the date of his retirement. If you were married before his retirement, then, the pension of your late husband is transferable into your name.

However, we are very sorry that we can't provide you with appropriate reply and we can't do the necessary action to your predicament because you did not mention the name and SSS number of your late husband. You need to give us this information because this will be needed in the verification of his records. Please write us again and include the name and SSS number of your late husband so we could follow up your claim to SSS.
